Privacy Policy

Our privacy commitment Class ECG collects only the information strictly necessary to identify a student in a class session, record attendance, and measure classroom participation and engagement. Student information is never sold, rented, traded, used for advertising, or supplied to another organisation for its own use.

1. What Class ECG is

Class ECG is a classroom attendance and engagement tool operated by ScholarStudio. Teachers create live class sessions, students join those sessions, and the application can record attendance and participation in classroom activities.

This policy describes the information Class ECG processes and the limits we place on its use.

2. Student information we collect

For classroom records, the only directly identifying student information that Class ECG deliberately collects and stores is:

the student's name; and
the student's student number.

Class ECG also records information generated by use of the app. This may include the session joined, the date and time of joining, attendance, activities made available during the session, responses or completion of activities, and calculated participation or engagement information.

A technical Firebase authentication identifier may be processed to authenticate a signed-in user and protect the service. It is not collected as an additional classroom profile field. Class ECG does not receive or store a student's Google password.

3. Attendance and engagement

Joining a specific live Class ECG session counts as attendance in that session. The application may therefore store the time at which a student joined or was last seen in the session.

Where a Teacher runs classroom activities, Class ECG may also store responses and calculate participation or engagement measures. If no activities are made available, the application may record attendance without an engagement score.

Teachers may enter the expected number of students in a class so that Class ECG can calculate an attendance rate. Class ECG does not require or maintain an uploaded student class list for this purpose.

4. Why we use this information

We use the information only to provide the functions of Class ECG, including to:

identify a student in the class session they join;
record session attendance;
record and display classroom participation;
calculate engagement information;
allow Teachers to review class and module archives;
produce Teacher-requested attendance and engagement CSV exports;
secure, maintain, and troubleshoot the application.

We do not collect student information for advertising, marketing, unrelated analytics, behavioural profiling, or sale.

5. No sale or third-party disclosure

ScholarStudio does not sell, rent, trade, licence, or disclose student names, student numbers, authentication credentials, attendance records, participation records, or engagement records to advertisers, data brokers, marketers, or any other third party for that third party's own purposes.

Student classroom data is not used to build advertising profiles and is not passed to external organisations for commercial exploitation, marketing, or independent analysis.

Class ECG necessarily uses technical infrastructure such as Google/Firebase Authentication and Firebase/Google Cloud hosting to authenticate users and store the application's data. Those services process information only as infrastructure required to operate Class ECG; ScholarStudio does not provide the information to them for advertising, resale, profiling, or any independent purpose.

6. Credentials and authentication

Google/Firebase Authentication is used to establish the identity of signed-in users. Authentication credentials are handled by the authentication provider. Class ECG does not receive or store Google account passwords.

Authentication information is used only to sign users in, keep sessions secure, and associate actions with the correct user. ScholarStudio never sells or uses authentication information for advertising or marketing.

7. Storage and security

Class ECG stores its application data in Firebase/Google Cloud infrastructure. Reasonable technical measures are used to protect information against unauthorised access, alteration, loss, or disclosure.

Browser storage may be used where strictly necessary to keep a user signed in, remember the current session, or support normal application operation. Class ECG does not use student information for cross-site advertising or tracking.

8. Teacher access and exports

Teachers who administer a class can view the attendance and engagement information for their own teaching context and can download it as a CSV file. Once a Teacher downloads a CSV, the Teacher or their institution is responsible for how that copy is stored and used.

Class ECG does not sell or distribute those exports and does not make student attendance or engagement data publicly available.

9. Retention, correction, and deletion

Information is retained only for as long as it is reasonably required to operate the service, maintain legitimate teaching or attendance records, meet applicable institutional requirements, or resolve technical or administrative issues.

A student may ask for incorrectly recorded identifying information to be corrected, or may request deletion where there is no lawful or institutional reason for the record to be retained.

11. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated when Class ECG changes. The current version will be published on this page with its last-updated date. Any future change that materially expands the collection or use of student information will be reflected here.
